The Texas Longhorns, of course! As many know, the Oklahoma Sooners moved up to take the number two spot in the BCS standings after defeating the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The problem? They took the number two spot that was previously occupied by the Texas Longhorns, a team that has already defeated them.
I am a huge supporter of a playoff system in college football and an even bigger supporter of the Texas Longhorns, making this whole thing a crock of you-know-what to me. Oklahoma will play the Missouri Tigers in the Big XII Title game and if the Sooners win, they're headed to the BCS Championship game to play the winner of the Bama/Florida game. My question is simple: Why does Oklahoma get the opportunity to play in the national title game and Texas does not? Texas beat Oklahoma on a neutral site by double digits, yet Oklahoma is more deserving than Texas? Give me a break.
Some people make the argument that Texas Tech beat Texas and they're not ranked above Texas. Well for those, Texas Tech isn't better than Texas, or Oklahoma, or Alabama, or Florida. So Texas Tech is not considered in this scenario. Sure, they beat Texas on the last play of the game in an absolute spoof. But they also struggled to defeat the Baylor Bears and the Nebraska Cornhuskers, so keep that in mind. The whole deal comes down to who gets into the title game, Oklahoma or Texas? To me, the proof is in the pudding. Texas beat Oklahoma by double digits on a neutral site, end of story. Now Texas sits at home and watches their conference title game played between two teams that they've already defeated. No problem with that?
This is just another fine example of why the BCS needs to be replaced with a playoff system in order to get the deserving teams in the championship game. And just think if Missouri wins the Big XII Title game? Then what? The BCS system is ruining the game of college football and its tough to watch. I guess if you're a Sooner fan then you're loving every bit of it, otherwise you know it's all crap. Texas is getting the short end of the stick when really they should be playing for a national title.
