Being a Diamondbacks fan, I haven't had much to cheer about the past few Novembers/Octobers. In fact, Arizona really hasn't even sniffed the playoffs since 2002, the year after they won the World Series.
Fast forward five years to 2007, and the D'Backs are currently the best team in the National League. Er, well ... the team with the best record in the NL at least. Even I'd be hardpressed to say that Arizona has more talent than the Mets, Phillies, Cubs and Padres. But hey, this team is simply winning, and that's all that matters isn't it?
Entering the final week and a half of the regular season, virtually every division except the AL West remains undecided. The Yankees are pulling off a rather remarkable run to catch the Red Sox in the AL East. The Tigers still have an outside shot at catching the Indians in the AL Central. The Mets' lead over the Phillies and Braves pretty much seems to shrink every day. The Cubs and Brewers have been battling for the NL Central lead for months now. And the Padres are only one game behind my Diamondbacks in the NL West.
With so much unpredictability abound, forecasting baseball's playoff teams is one of the hardest things to do. But then again, I've always liked a good challenge. Here is who I think will make this year's postseason:
NL East - Mets
NL Central - Cubs
NL West - Diamondbacks
Wild Card - Phillies
AL East - Red Sox
AL Central - Indians
AL West - Angels
Wild Card - Yankees
NL Matchups - Diamondbacks over Phillies, Mets over Cubs. Mets over Diamondbacks.
AL Matchups - Red Sox over Yankees, Indians over Angels. Red Sox over Indians.
World Series - Red Sox over Mets in six games.
I don't know why, but I've just had a feeling all season that the Sox would win the Series this year. I expect them to turn it around just in time for the playoffs to start.

The Diamond Backs have made the playoffs in the last 5 years. The Pirates have not made the playoffs in 15. Enough said. You should treasure every day having a good baseball team to pledge your loyalty to.
