Just to so everyone knows, I am a Penguins fan. I was at the game here in Washington, DC yesterday. What I came away from the game thinking was what a lot of people have been saying for a long time about Crosby is true. He was not the best player on the ice. He was not even the 5th best player on the ice. He looked so average it was shocking.

For those who saw the game yesterday saw Crosby squawking at Alexander Ovechkin. In a fight between those players, which I think everyone would love to see, my money most certainly would be on Ovechkin. He is a man child. He is gritty and he just completely dominated the game. I have no clue why the Pens did not just have someone shadow him like in the NFL. He was so wide open on the first goal of the game you just had to shake your head.

I mean, Marc-Andre Fleury was terrible and that did not help the Pens because the defense was porous. The Caps just had their way with the Pen's all day long. There was a stretch in the second period where the Pens could not even get it into their own zone. Not to mention the power play was just a mess. If you were watching the game you would have thought that the Caps were on the power play the whole game.

Back to Crosby.  I think people have figured him out. You bump him and you distract him and boom, a completely good hockey player who is a good not great player becomes below average at best. He was so rattled yesterday at one point by Ovechkin that the two players began pushing and shoving each other which ended up with Crosby's helmet falling off.

Ovechkin then waved Crosby back to the bench with a very dismissive your team is getting smoked wave. Now as much as this would have annoyed me, Crosby deserved it. He lost is cool and the Pens lost their chances of getting back into the game. To quote Ovechkin "What I can say about him?" Ovechkin said. "He is a good player, but he talks too much." I completely agree with Ovechkin.

My advice to Crosby, start being a Captain, stop running your mouth. Start being a man. Your team is not even in the playoffs right now. You are tenth in the Eastern Conference. Realize you are not the best player on your team anymore and that your talents will never match Evgeni Malkin.  The Pens need to begin thinking about building around Malkin. He is a Center that needs wingers and last year, took over the League when Crosby was out. He is special and everyone knows it. I do think he needs to be more physical, but not everyone can be Ovechkin.

Man Up Crosby. Drop the gloves. Show that you a man. Show your team you are a leader. Instead you looked like a crybaby yesterday and all of us Penguins fans in attendance saw you punk out. I hope Crosby shows something in the next couple of weeks or the Pens are looking at a lost season. I know this is very critical, but having seen first hand exactly how lost the Pens were yesterday, I am sure I am not the only one with this opinion.

Iceburgh-One word. Playoffs. If he carries the team on his shoulders like Malkin did last year, my current opinion will be changed.

I had a long conversation about the Pens last night with a good friend and he claims all the Pens need are two things. A winger for Sidney and a fighter.

I tend to agree. I can't believe no one stepped up to change the tempo when they were getting killed. A fight in Hockey is a great way to fire up a team. Just like a manager in baseball get's thrown out of the game to fire up his team.

My favorite fire up moment is when Lloyd McClendon stole a base he was so mad.

Short answer: "No"

Long answer:

Ovechicken is a punk. The Caps aren't used to winning and he and the team act like they don't know how to win. It's not enough for him to score he's gotta rub the opponents nose in it. He gets away with it because that's his "personality". People forgive a lot of stuff when you are winning. Crosby smiles after he scores and he's a punk. That's all I'll say about Ovi8. Kharma will take care of him.

Regarding Crosby, what does him "showing you something in the next few weeks" entail specifically. Is it passing Malkin for the scoring lead (he's number 2 in the league right now)? Scoring 4 points every night like he did Saturday in Philly? Leading his team to the Stanley Cup finals like he did last year? Getting 100 points in a season again? The expectations for this kid are ridiculous. He's easily one of the top 3 players in the league right now.

The Pens problems are not Crosby. He's just the most visible member of the team and so everything he does gets recorded, scrutinized and over analyzed. If he's guilty of anything it's letting other players get under his skin. But why is he the only player in the league that's not allowed to respond when people job him without being accused of "whining". What makes it "whining" and not just "complaining" or "taking exception" anyway?

Their problems are that they let all the grit on their team go in the off season and replaced it with lesser players.

What he, and the Pens need is some tough guys and agitators that will go after punks that job him and leave him to the passing and the scoring. Him dropping the gloves against someone that is bigger than him doesn't do anything for the Pens.

Sure, then when he drops the gloves, you'll complain that the fight wasn't good enough. See: fight with Brett McLean Jan. 3.

Or, even better, you'll say, "What was he doing fighting? He needs to score!"

Bure, Messier, Federov, Yzerman, Shanahan, Lindros, Richards, Iginla, Malkin, Thorton, Heatley, Forsburg, i could go on and on.

You know what I really thought the same way until yesterday. I think maybe it is because he is so young that he seems like he was complaining the whole game.

Justin, I agree that Crosby needs to talk less, but he does have a lot of talent and I am sure that most fans outside of Pittsburgh and Washington would love to have him. Most superstars in the NHL are crybabies. Think of Gretzky, Lemeiux, and even Jagr. They all hated to be touched on the ice and usually cried about it. Ovechkin is the first great player that I haven't seen do that. Are there any others that I am not thinking of?

Justin Brindger is one of the 10 Pittsburgh Pirates fans that still exist. He tortures himself every morning by reading about what stage of the 20 year rebuilding plan the Pirates are currently in. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA but lived in Williamsport, PA for most of his life and almost caught a home run ball from Sean Burroughs of Long Beach, CA during the 1992 Little League World Series. He went to Ithaca College in NY and yes, the Gorges are awesome. He started his business career trading baseball cards at the Dixie Baseball Card Shop, and thought he made some great decisions with Barry Bonds rookie cards only to find out 20 years later that the dude was on roids and the cards were not going to pay for his fiancée's engagement ring after all.
