There is a rumor that Matt Holliday might be shipped to the St. Louis Cardinals for Ryan Ludwick, who had a breakout year in 2008. And now I pray to the baseball gods: Please let this happen. Ideally, this will be like the deal for Jim Edmonds in 2000 in which the Cardinals had to let go "breakout" Kent Bottenfield (who had a career high 18 wins in 1999 -- note: he only had 10 career wins after that!). Ludwick has always had an abundant amount of power. But with that has, until this year, come a frail body, prone to injury.
Now if the Cardinals can get Holliday, that means he would be in the same lineup as Albert Pujols.
Let that sink in for a minute.
I can dream.
Let this dream become reality.
There is still a lot of offseason to go. I think some of what Mo was doing was trying to establish Ludwick at a high price. If they can then flip him for a middle infielder or a starter that will be better for the team.
I agree with you that it would have been sweet having Holliday wearing the Birds on the Bat (especially as an OSU fan), but it would not have put the team in the best position. Do you read VEB?
Thanks for the memory Brian. It took me a while to remember who Kent Bottenfield was.
I loved the book Moneyball, but are they really going to show him the money? I think this is a ploy to get their new stadium.
Yeah ... a real bummer. Is Oakland going to make a push and kick that Moneyball crap to the curb?
Oakland? Did not see that one coming......Billy Beane strikes again. Oakland....seriously? I do not get that guy. He is nuts. There is no way they can compete with Anaheim. I guess they are going to try.
