I figured that while I'm connected to the internet, I might as well post my thoughts about the NBA Finals, which get underway tomorrow night. The Celtics have been my pick for the title since last year's draft, when they acquired Ray Allen, and then Kevin Garnett shortly thereafter. Almost a full year later, I stand by that prediction, though I do believe it will be a close series. I'm taking the Celtics in seven exciting games. Somewhere, David Stern is wetting himself at the thought of a nail-biting, seven game series between Boston and L.A. Seriously, the NBA needed this. After last year's San Antonio-Cleveland snoozer, this year promises record ratings. Read on for my breakdown of the individual matchups in this series: Point guard: Derek Fisher vs. Rajon Rondo. Advantage: Los Angeles Rondo has been playing well of late, but Fisher's experience gives him the upper hand. Shooting guard: Kobe Bryant vs. Ray Allen. Advantage: Los Angeles Allen is a great, great player, but come on, it's Kobe Bryant. He will dominate anyone and everyone. Small forward: Lamar Odom vs. Paul Pierce. Advantage: Boston Odom is a solid player, but Pierce is the heart of the Celtics. Look for him to emerge as Boston's most consistent threat. Power forward: Vladimir Radmanovic vs. Kevin Garnett. Advantage: Boston Um ... does this need further elaboration? Center: Pau Gasol vs. Kendrick Perkins. Advantage: Los Angeles Gasol will have a big series against the inexperienced Perkins and the slower Garnett. Bench: Luke Walton, Sasha Vujacic and Ronny Turiaf vs. James Posey, Sam Cassell and Glen Davis. Advantage: Even I don't believe either team's bench will be the deciding factor in this series. They're both pretty even in my eyes. Coaching: Phil Jackson vs. Doc Rivers. Advantage: Los Angeles Jackson is one of the game's coaching greats. Rivers is solid too, but Jackson is elite. So, according to the above tally, I just completely contradicted my prediction that Boston will win, as L.A. emerges with a 4-2 advantage. Go figure. I've just had a feeling about the C's this season, and I'm sticking to that. Expect more posts as the series goes on.
