Tim Hudson gave up quite a few hits over four innings, and committing two errors didn't help much, either. The errors led to two unearned runs (I've never agreed with that), though he did strike out six and the rest of his outs were grounders. Billy Wagner pitched a perfect inning. Jesse Chavez gave up a couple hits but pitched a scoreless inning (still not what we're looking for here). Mike Dunn gave up a double and two walks but pitched a scoreless inning (also not what we're looking for, but he's looking better than Chavez).br /
br /
The Braves only had five hits and two of them were from Melky Cabrera. Nate McLouth had two more strikeouts and has looked terrible. Otherwise, nothing much happened.br /

The Braves didn't get to finish their game, or even get started good for that matter, but they accomplished what they set out to do today. Jair Jurrjens pitched two scoreless innings, throwing 18 of 29 pitches for strikes. He worked all of his pitches and a href="http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blog/2010/03/12/jurrjens-sharp-in-delayed-spring-debut/?cxntfid=blogs_atlanta_braves_blog"felt great/a, including striking out Andrew McCutchen on three straight pitches to start the game.br /
br /
The stats won't count and the Pirates made a trip for nothing, but the Braves used it to get Jurrjens his work. He's now scheduled to pitch on three days rest to keep the rotation in order, which doesn't seem very cautious, but it shouldn't matter too much since it was only two innings.br /

1. It's probably worth noting that the Braves andnbsp;Yankees were rained out last night. Jair Jurrjens is still scheduled to pitch today after Tommy Hanson.br /

Braves introduce new arrival Salcedo
-- by MLB.com today.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- As Edward Salcedo stood in front of a group of reporters at ESPN''s Wide World of Sports complex on Saturday morning, he immediately made it known that he does not plan to wait long before having the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of two of his childhood idols, Andruw Jones and Chipper Jones. "I''m going to demonstrate to everybody here that I''m going to do everything I need to do to work to get to Major Leagues as soon as possible," Salcedo said through the interpretation provided by Braves director of international scouting Johnny Almaraz.

Romero feeling more confident this spring
-- by MLB.com today.
It''s still only early Spring Training, but that groundout capped off a day that saw Romero outduel veteran Tim Hudson, despite facing seven potential everyday players in the Braves'' lineup. While facing a Blue Jays team that fielded just one projected starter (Travis Snider), Hudson yielded three runs, two earned, on seven hits, though he struck out six and didn''t walk anyone.

6. Mike Stanton, OF, Marlins ? A National League scout described him as having Dave Kingman-like power. "Not as accomplished as [Atlanta's Jason] Heyward,'' said the scout, "and he needs to improve his swing, but one of those guys you're on the edge of your seat every time he comes up, just to see how far he can hit it.''

McLouth can see path to spring success
-- by MLB.com today.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Nate McLouth''s vision problems are a thing of the past, but the Braves center fielder''s contact lenses have not exactly helped him produce the kind of contact that he would have liked during the early portion of Spring Training. While going hitless and striking out two more times during Saturday afternoon''s 3-0 loss to the Blue Jays at ESPN''s Wide World of Sports complex, McLouth found himself still waiting for that moment when he starts to feel comfortable from an offensive perspective.

Romero throws 4 scoreless in Jays' win
-- by Denver Post 2 days ago.
He struggled with his control and the wind against the Braves, but he maintained his composure, something he said he had big problems with last season. He got out of a first-and-third situation in the second inning and walked Braves pitcher Tim Hudson to lead off the third. Romero got a double play to end the inning.

Pirates, Braves halted early
-- by MLB.com 1 days ago.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- With Mother Nature providing a short window of opportunity, the Braves and Pirates at least attempted to be the only Major League clubs to play in Florida on Friday. But rain forced this Grapefruit League contest to be halted after three innings. Pirates shortstop Ronny Cedeno''s third-inning RBI double off Jo-Jo Reyes accounted for the only run scored during this three-inning span. The afternoon''s most important development came courtesy of Braves right-hander Jair Jurrjens, who had the opportunity to complete his scheduled two innings before rain forced the game to be delayed for a third and final time.

Gritty Conrad off to strong spring start
-- by MLB.com 1 days ago.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- While growing up in the San Diego area, Brooks Conrad enjoyed the regular opportunities he had to watch Tony Gwynn display one of the most successful swings the game has ever seen. But from afar, Conrad also developed an appreciation for George Brett, Craig Biggio and other similar players who were given the same "gritty" tag that he gained during his short stint in Atlanta last year.

2000s marked by end of great careers
-- by MLB.com 1 days ago.
ATLANTA -- History will remember the first decade of this century as one that extended the annual success the Braves achieved during the 1990s, and one that marked the end of the Hall of Fame contributions that Tom Glavine, John Smoltz and Greg Maddux made to the city of Atlanta. Of course it was also void of those World Series trips and Cy Young Awards that became commonplace in Atlanta at the end of the 20th century.

Friday''s forecast calls for thunderstorms throughout the morning and afternoon. If weather again alters the Braves'' plans, they will be forced to make up for lost time with bullpen sessions and simulated games.

Comebacks at forefront for Atlanta Braves, Oakland Athletics

ALL WET: Last night''s game against the Braves at Steinbrenner Field was canceled due to inclement weather, forcing scheduled starter A.J. Burnett to throw three simulated innings in an indoor cage. Relievers Dave Robertson, Jonathan Albaladejo and Boone Logan, who were all slated to pitch last night, will make the three-hour trip across the state for today''s game against Washington.

New York Yankees glad to have Javier Vazquez while waiting for Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes
-- by NY Daily News 3 days ago.
What we do know is, Cashman hedged his bets on both Chamberlain and Phil Hughes, his two crown jewel homegrown starters, having breakthrough seasons in 2010, and instead went out and acquired Javier Vazquez from the Atlanta Braves at a cost of about $8 million to the payroll. With Chamberlain likely to return to short, late-inning work, the trade of Melky Cabrera for the 33-year-old Vazquez, who has averaged over 210 innings the past nine seasons, looms ever larger now.

Wagner feeling a lot more comfortable
-- by MLB.com 3 days ago.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- This wasn''t the raucous setting that Billy Wagner will encounter while pitching at Turner Field or Citizens Bank Park this year, but it certainly was more frenzied than the atmosphere he was experiencing at this time last year while throwing batting practice to his 10-year-old son and his friends from the Crozet (Va.) Little League. Operating under the impression that he would miss the entire 2009 season while rehabbing from the Tommy John surgery he had undergone the previous September, Wagner enjoyed those peaceful days around the Little Leaguers and never thought there would actually be a chance to make the 17 late-season relief appearances that proved impressive enough for the Braves to bring him to Atlanta to serve as their new closer.

Jerry Manuel determined to use Jenrry Mejia in short and frequent relief spurts for New York Mets
-- by NY Daily News 4 days ago.
POWER SURGE:Chris Carter homered for the third straight Grapefruit League at-bat when he went deep in the first inning off Derek Lowe. "The Animal," as Manuel has tabbed him because of his early arrivals at camp and intense workouts, went 2-for-3 with a walk in the Mets'' 7-6, 10-inning loss to the Braves. Carter, acquired from the Red Sox in the Billy Wagner trade, had a pair of ninth-inning homers Monday. Mike Jacobs and Frank Catalanotto are the favorites for the final bench spot for which Carter is vying....Fifth-starter front-runner Jon Niese surrendered a two-run double to Melky Cabrera during Atlanta''s three-run first inning. Niese bounced back with a scoreless second, then was replaced by Fernando Nieve. Niese allowed three hits while walking two and hitting a batter....Nelson Figueroa upped his scoreless-innings count to eight with two run-free frames. ...Reliever Carlos Muniz was assigned to minor-league camp.... Minor-league pitcher Melvin Colon has been suspended 50 games after testing positive for metabolites of Nandrolone.

Halladay continues to impress at Phils camp
-- by MLB.com 3 days ago.
Halladay, who will spend that extra time during the season studying a game plan, allowed three hits and struck out five over three scoreless innings against Atlanta. In two Grapefruit League starts, he has allowed five hits and struck out eight over five scoreless innings.

McCann going to bat for childhood cancer

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- When Brian McCann hits a home run this year, he''ll have the satisfaction of knowing that his power is helping both the Braves and the fight against childhood cancer. Through his relationship with the Rally Foundation, McCann has established a program called the McCann 16 Home Run Challenge. The program allows fans to pledge varying amounts of money that will be donated each time the four-time All-Star catcher homers this season.

2010 Atlanta: Chris Fontaine NASCAR Truck Race Recap

Going into it mentally, I know I have been as fast as I have to go, and everything else will seem a little bit easier."

Early Bumps and Bruises Highlight Braves' Vulnerability -
-- by Fanhouse 5 days ago.
I completely understand your point, and I''ll miss Vazquez as well. But as everyone always has to remind me...Melky was not the center-piece of that trade (it was Arodys Vizcaino). Cabrera will be a nice addition considering the fact that he replaced Garett "Super Douche" Anderson in left field. He''s expected to be a solid upgrade in that position, and can play any of the outfield positions when needed. Once Heyward is in his rightful place in right (probably platooning with Diaz), the Braves outfield should be solid for sure. Supposedly this kid (Vizcaino) is a real stud, and is expected to be a top-notch pitcher in the years to come. There''s no doubt that I would have rather of seen Lowe get moved, but hopefully this trade isn''t as bad as it appears on the surface. Still though, I was happier (and more confident) in our rotation last year. Guess we''ll have to see what the season holds. I have a feeling that Cabrera is going to have a strong year and that we will end up making a package deal offer for another big name by the trade deadline if he''s not panning out. I truly believe that the Braves are going to have a contender this year. Maybe not the best in baseball, but very likely a top 5 team when all is said and done. Look out Phillies...the chop is on it''s way back! Go BRAVES!!!

Ex-Pirate McLouth sees things in new perspective
-- by Post Gazette 1 weeks ago.
? The difference between the Pirates'' and Braves'' atmospheres -- "Things are a lot more positive and relaxed, from what I''ve noticed [with Atlanta]. People aren''t as uptight. Losing for so long, there are so many negative things said about the Pirates. It''s tough to read, being on that side. Defensive. But the thing is, it''s true. That''s tough to deal with every day, it''s tough to deal with that negativity."

Appreciating Bobby Cox requires perspective
-- by Gator Sports 2 weeks ago.
But that was then and this is ouch. The division belongs to the Phillies and the Braves are probably going to finish a couple of games over .500 in Cox''s final season as manager. They''d like to do better for the 68-year old Cox, but baseball is not a game of emotion.
